Triple Flower Teardrop Pendant

In addition to playing with paper types, I also enjoy testing fabrics and ephemera in my encaustic medium. For this pendant, I took a scrap of cotton fabric with a rose print and dipped it in encaustic medium (beeswax and resin). Then I did the same with a few paper flowers that I got from an Ethnic Art Festival booth years ago. I love that the petals make heart shapes. I wrapped 16-gauge steel wire into a teardrop shape with some loops to attach the flowers to by their wire stems. Then I added the warm fabric with red encaustic paint. This dimensional pendant measures 2 1/2 inches long by 1 1/2 wide.

Encaustics should be cared for as you would for any fine art piece. Encaustic derives from the word ‘burn in’ and is a process of applying molten wax colors to a surface for the creation of images or decoration that began more than 2 millennia ago with Roman Egyptian wax portraits.
