As I went through my tissue stash, this glitter paper caught my eye and I decided to try it out. The glitter stayed on as I heated the black tissue with encaustic medium, and I cut it into the shapes to fit this angel. I had hand-bent steel wire into a shape and embellished this angel’s body with rondel sparkle beads. It was fun to give this one eyes. It measures 3 1/2 inches tall by 3 1/2 inches wide and 1/2 inch deep and comes with a silver satin ribbon for hanging.
Encaustics should be cared for as you would for any fine art piece. Encaustic derives from the word ‘burn in’ and is a process of applying molten wax colors to a surface for the creation of images or decoration that began more than 2 millennia ago with Roman Egyptian wax portraits. Hanging the ornament in the window may cause fading over time.
