Brown Button Angel

I love Vintage buttons and have a hard time resisting them when I poke around antique shops, or Vogue Fabrics’ button bin. Lately I am on a mission to use up what I own before buying new, so I incorporated this lovely brown daisy button into an angel. The button has small flower petal impressions, along with tiny dots and triangles. The triangles look a bit like hearts to me.

I wrapped 16-gauge steel wire into the angel shape along with a swirl to attach the button to.  Then I dipped brown tissue paper and inked teabags in a beeswax and resin mixture and adhered it to the steel wire. This angel comes with a brown raffia string for hanging. It measures 3 3/8 inches tall by 3 3/4 inches wide and 1/2 inch deep.

Encaustics should be cared for as you would for any fine art piece. Encaustic derives from the word ‘burn in’ and is a process of applying molten wax colors to a surface for the creation of images or decoration that began more than 2 millennia ago with Roman Egyptian wax portraits. Hanging the ornament in the window may cause fading over time.
