The day after the 2016 election I read a post on Hillary’s outfit choices and saw that she had used the colors of the National Woman’s Party throughout her campaign. So I decided to look up the flag, and make up an angel reflecting those colors.
This white angel has been adorned with purple, gold and silver glitter markers to radiate the empowerment of our brave ancestral women and the continued work we have to do. The wax and wire angel measures 3 3/4 inches by 3 3/4 inches and can be hung around the house year-round, or adorn a holiday tree in Winter.
Steel wire has been hand-bent into the angel and spiral shape, after which hand-colored tissue paper was attached with encaustic medium. It comes with a white satin ribbon for hanging.
Encaustics should be cared for as you would for any fine art piece. Encaustic derives from the word ‘burn in’ and is a process of applying molten wax colors to a surface for the creation of images or decoration that began more than 2 millennia ago with Roman Egyptian wax portraits.
Be gentle if handling the ornament in extreme heat or cold. It is best to let the piece acclimate to room temperature. Hanging it in direct sunlight may cause some fading over time.Â
