I love playing with scraps, and this beautiful gold-and green scrap needed to become an angel. I created an angel shape out of 16-gauge steel wire and then cut out handmade paper to fit the design. The artisan paper was placed in encaustic medium (a wax and wire mixture) and then adhered to the steel wire. This angel has a lovely translucense and is wonderful for the person who loves all things green.
The angel measures 3 3/4 inches wide by 3 1/4 inches long and comes with a silver satin cord for hanging.
Encaustics should be cared for as you would for any fine art piece. Encaustic derives from the word ‘burn in’ and is a process of applying molten wax colors to a surface for the creation of images or decoration that began more than 2 millennia ago with Roman Egyptian wax portraits. Encaustic Medium is a blend of beeswax and resin.
