As an avid letter writer in my youth, postage stamps have always held a fascination of far-off places and travel goals. I inherited a bunch of postage stamps a few years ago and enjoy sifting through them for inspiration. This pink one was begging to be incorporated into an angel.
I wrapped an angel form around my jig, and then sized the wire ‘apron’ to fit the postage stamp size. This one is from Romania, which apparently started a postal system in 1865.
This angel measures 3 inches tall by 3 3/4 inches wide and comes with a white satin cord for hanging.
I have other stamps in stock and can modify this design based on different colors and countries.
Encaustics should be cared for as you would for any fine art piece. Encaustic derives from the word ‘burn in’ and is a process of applying molten wax colors to a surface for the creation of images or decoration that began more than 2 millennia ago with Roman Egyptian wax portraits.
