A Merry Year-end

It’s been fun to create new goodies for my friends this season. Their inspiration has sparked my creativity, and I have more spin-offs in my head from the pendants and ornaments ordered for their loved ones or themselves.

ChunkyBeads

My chunky beaded bangle got a few admirers, and fortunately Dakota Beads had two more strands for me at Ayla’s Originals Highland Park Bead Bazaar so I could make two custom bangles for my friends.

Her wonder woman powers will only be used for good and adventuring.

This set of portraits has special meaning to the recipients.

I wonder if I will see these pendants around town or if they flew elsewhere.

Some of my favorite Angels got adopted.

Frosties weren’t as popular due to the lack of snow, but some found new homes and What Linus Said sold twice this year. Destinations include Mexico and Portland, Oregon.

Earrings were admired, one pair converted to clip-ons at the Bucktown Holiday ArtShow, and ‘write’ actually went to a novelist.

Musical pendants continue to be bestsellers.

My Delft Blue set stayed in the family.

Two of these sets will be auctioned off in Houston on New Year’s Eve.

Thank you all for your support this season. It’s been very affirming to make these goodies and know that they are meaningful to you.

I have re-opened Etsy, and The Collage Cafe has my bangles and pendants in Evanston. Moon Art Gallery will get an inventory update in January. I’m exploring additional venues, and will keep you posted on upcoming fairs and pop-ups.

Sparkles at Ayla’s Bead Bazaar

September closed out with a pop-up at Ayla’s Fall Bead Bazaar.

AylasBeadBazaar

I had perused the bazaar last year and was thrilled to be one of the vendors this year.

BeadRoom

What’s not to like about being surrounded by sparkles and beauty?

PaintedBeads

Last year’s Pyrite strand made it into a set.

PyritePendantMaikesmarvels

I paired it with my Desigual dress for the day.

I also combined it with the ring I bought from Ayla’s booth last year, which matched the sparkly Noktivo nails nicely.

NoktivoManicure

The set also marked a tagging milestone (when I hadn’t properly identified the beads).

Before the fair, I had to tally up my cash and business cards to make sure I was set.

FairPrep

My satin necklace cords had dwindled as well, so I spent one afternoon tediously cutting and crimping.

It is always fun to see the bare bones of a fair.

My table was set up with time to spare.

So I perused the other booths before the public came in.

Elka’s Designs has so many treasures.

I had picked up strands from her trunk show recently at Ayla’s Originals Evanston store.

ElkasStrands

Elka hand-picked the colors for this Hematite bangle.

I felt the need for some orange and she had this Hollowite Turquoise on hand. The coppery acrylic beads are lightweight in spite of their size.

This Pink Agate set lights up my life and wardrobe.

I played with Fall notes for the round hematite beaded bangle (and I have plenty of beads for monochromatic versions as well).

Ayla’s had a variety of tables to peruse, including pearls and silver strands of gorgeousness:

The Pastels Chicago show at the Art Center – Highland Park was not as pastell-y as anticipated. I was surprised by the earth tones in many pieces.

My neighbor sold chainmaille kits:

So much sparkle!

I was worried I might not be able to find the strands of this chunky bead bangle that has been requested by two customers already.

DakotaStonesChunkyBangle

Thankfully Dakota Stones was right in front of me.

Hooray, two strands for me (and more goodies)!

I wasn’t the only one browsing the $5 and $10 strands.

I was tempted by so many other beads, but had to restrain myself.

After all, one has to turn a profit first!

My pen-person from the last NEW meeting did its job.

All these embellishments spark so many ideas!

Bellydancegoodies

The ornaments drew admiration, so I hope some holiday orders come my way.

It was a lovely day filled with inspiration, and I look forward to showing the new creations from my new stash.

Summer Selfies

It’s time for some Summer Selfies as I process numerous photos from my August travels.

AgateFlowerblog

The Yellow Agate Set visited a few stores this quarter while the pink flower wax and wire pendant was admired during NEW’s recent Meet & Munch. I paired it with infinity earrings.

redselfiesblog

in May I wore various Mother’s Day Pendants to promote the lovely day. The peace-loving squiggledee adorned my seatbelt on an errand run. I sold a zigzag collar and had fun creating a new one. During NEW’s visit to the Heartwood Center I wore the Princess Coleopterist Ladybug pendant.

I’m freelancing again which had me suiting up a few times.

BWSelfiesblog

The black and white look called for the Isaiah 55:12 bible pendant that had me go out in joy. I paired it with spiral earrings. My coiled wire earrings were paired with various outfits throughout the summer. I wore the polka dot pendant inspired by Curly Girl Design’s shipment on another outing. The burgundy abstract pendant isn’t listed yet.

BlueSelfiesBlog

I enjoyed making the Delft blue pendants for my SAIL trip on King’s Day. The Morpho pendant is a favorite of mine. For the pride parade celebration I paired this rainbow pendant with flower earrings that sold. My chunky bead pendants are making their way on Etsy. You can order your own birthstone or chakra bangle anytime, or visit the Collage Cafe for ready-made items.

Come try these on at Saturday’s Platt-A-Polooza event in Bloomingdale.

Playing with beads

The Bead and Button Show is on May 27 through June 8, but this year I won’t be able to attend.

BangleBeads

I would love to take Brenda Schweder’s Jig workshops, but time- and money-wise it’s not feasible to travel to Milwaukee this year.

AgatePrep

Instead, I am perusing the beads I picked up last year for new projects.  The Yellow Agate chunky beads from Ayla’s Fall Bead Bazaar inspired a new set.

AgatesPicked

I love the uneven shapes and the marbled patterns. Playing with the shapes and wrapping steel wire around them to create earrings and two pendants was fun.

ModelingAgateSet

Two other strands caught my eye, the chunky glass beads I also obtained at Ayla’s Fall Bead Bazaar and the purple coral from A Bella Bead in Glen Ellyn.

ChunkyGlassbefore

The purple coral became a pair of earrings, and I’ll likely add a pendant and a bracelet to match.

purplecoralearrings

The glass beads have such cheerful colors that were fun to sort.

sortingcolors

I liked playing with different designs based on how the beads coordinated themselves. First I just strung some beads on a wire the traditional way.

stringingbeadsforoval

These asked for the classic oval cage design.

ovalcage

Then I kept wrapping around it until the wire was up.

OvalCagewithBeads

The angular beads asked for a triangular shape.

TriangleWrapping

Then I wrapped around them more.

Fiddling with wire gauges and bending the beads into clusters is very organic.

This cluster wrapped itself into a rectangular shape.

It is fun to watch the pieces catch the light.

Dirty hands make me feel accomplished.

Being a matchy-matchy person, I added earrings to the mix as well.

I still have plenty of beads to make a bangle bracelet.

I also made Amazonite earrings to go with the collar and bangle set I have up on Etsy.

These newbies will be loaded onto Etsy after my pop-up shop on May 30 at Creative Coworking.

Summer Jewelry on Etsy

Before my 3-day escape last week I did a photoshoot for Etsy. This week I loaded more inventory onto the shop, as I explore other venues to display and sell my work.

Draw was inspired by the fabulous pencil handler Lauren Levato-Coyne. She taught me how to draw, and her friendship has drawn me into Chicago’s artistic community.

My birthstone pieces found their start with this Turquoise set. Turquoise has lovely healing properties.

Years ago I made a watch from cubed beads, and the remaining beads became part of this ‘cubist’ pendant. It reminds me of Alicia Forestall-Boehm’s work.

The Sunshine sparkle beaded bangle with matching earrings cheers me up. I want to wear it but designed it for someone taller than me. Is it you?

YellowSparkleBangleEarringSet

This is blue wax and wire rectangle is one of my favorites, with a vintage glass bead from a chandelier that I only find in plastic these days.

SquigglePendantAquawCrystal

I’ve had these pink tulip beads for some time as well, and hope they find their way to a new home soon.

TulipBeadPendantEarringSet

Earrings abound as well, with these heart-shaped cages being the most recent internet debutantes.

CagedHeartearrings

Wouldn’t the pink scribble ball earrings go well with this Pretty in Pink oval pendant?

Remember that you can order custom pieces at any time. Birthstone bangles or pendants celebrate family and loved ones.

Custom verses, quotes, colors, shapes and sizes also apply to the waxed pieces, such as this Rose of Sharon Heart
