Witchy Studio

I meant to get my travel blog started but I had too much fun in the studio.

palette

Halloween is coming, and I picked up some napkins in Germany to expand the collection from last year.

2015halloweenpendants

So I set about wrapping wire based on the designs.

wirewaiting

I used the Now That’s A Jig! Big rounds to shape the wire.

jiground

Then I adhered the napkin, which turned out to be of fabulous waxing caliber.

skulluncut

Skull beads are fun.

Later in the week I rediscovered a stamp I had purchased after last year’s season.

stampingspooks

So I made a whimsical spider pendant that reminds me of Jip en Janneke illustrations.

jipjannekespin

My sister’s felted pieces are also very encaustic-friendly, so more “treats” were made.

waxingorange

Some bitchy witchys didn’t want to do as I said, so they were scrapped and new ones flown into spiderwebs.

creatingorange

Some of these pendants will be uploaded later in the week, and I am dropping off a small necklace selection at The Collage Cafe during tomorrow’s playtime drop-in.

Have fun getting your Halloween adornments together! It’s fun to add to the collection and I am curious to see what goes to new homes this year.

Earrings for Ear spools

When I had my pop-up at Chroma K8, she mentioned the need for different types of ear hooks to safely stay in her ear spools. I had ordered some clip-on loops, and those seemed to work with a trial run.

KatesEarrings

However, of the three pairs one didn’t function, so I perused the Bead & Button show for other ideas.  Saki Silver had some fabulous bronze options and I took a few sizes to play with.

SakiSilver

Then I designed a few earrings and had them tested by an ear-plug wearing friend. With her stamp of approval, I feel good about leaving them with Kate for her clientele to peruse.

K8earplugearrings

These skulls were so much fun to play with.

skullcollection

The nickel-free hooks work on regular ears too, so I am excited to see this new collection depart into the world.

earhooks

Meanwhile, I also made additional pendants and bangles with Kate’s beautique in mind.

K8Newbies

Since I was on a roll, I also made some new pendants for The Collage Cafe.

A few items were adopted at a recent Cocktails and Coloring Fourth Friday event.

No Frills Fun Factory

I’ve been preparing for the No Frills Fun Run Vendor Night that takes place on Thursday. No Frills Fun Run is an annual charitable run that was started in 2012 by two local moms in Elmhurst, Illinois. On February 28, participants will run  a half-marathon or half-half distance (6.55 miles) to benefit one family in need.

waxingpendants

This year the proceeds will benefit the May Family. Darryl May has battled Multiple Myeloma (bone marrow cancer) for several years. Although the stem cell transplant was a success and he is making progress in his fight, he continues to need extensive medical care.

AngelCounting

In addition to the run, there is a No Frills Fun Run Vendor Fundraiser Night on Thursday, February 18 from 7 pm to 11 pm at an Elmhurst residence, with all hostess proceeds and a portion of vendor proceeds being donated directly to The No Frills Fun Run.

BeadedCombos

The Vendor Night will be a fun night of shopping, girlfriends, beverages and snacks all to benefit the Mays Family. Vendors include: Maxine’s Handbags, Pampered Chef, Origami Owl, Beautycounter, Gold Canyon Candles and Loch Bands. You can also shop online.

MusicalDetail

I’ve replenished my musical pieces with a piano primer and a song sheet.

MusicalMaking

I also found some old travel guides and cut out a Paris map for two pendants.

CharlesDeGaulle

My new workbench has been in use and I am loving its functionality.

workbenchinaction

Having my beads at a glance gave me numerous ideas.

Combining paper and beads is fun as I plan pendants.

I had to make sets, of course.

I posted an in-progress heart on Facebook that got snapped up right away. You can see it on YouTube!

TripleLoveHeart

I just tagged my 599th jewelry creation!

I hope to see you on Thursday night. Message me if you like one of these pieces and I can arrange a transaction with you, or make a set customized to your favorite beads or gemstones.

A Merry Year-end

It’s been fun to create new goodies for my friends this season. Their inspiration has sparked my creativity, and I have more spin-offs in my head from the pendants and ornaments ordered for their loved ones or themselves.

ChunkyBeads

My chunky beaded bangle got a few admirers, and fortunately Dakota Beads had two more strands for me at Ayla’s Originals Highland Park Bead Bazaar so I could make two custom bangles for my friends.

ChunkyBangles

Her wonder woman powers will only be used for good and adventuring.

Some of my favorite Angels got adopted.

Frosties weren’t as popular due to the lack of snow, but some found new homes and What Linus Said sold twice this year. Destinations include Mexico and Portland, Oregon.

Ornaments2015

Earrings were admired, one pair converted to clip-ons at the Bucktown Holiday ArtShow, and ‘write’ actually went to a novelist.

WirePieces

Musical pendants continue to be bestsellers.

My Delft Blue set stayed in the family.

Two of these sets will be auctioned off in Houston on New Year’s Eve.

HoustonEarlyMusic

Thank you all for your support this season. It’s been very affirming to make these goodies and know that they are meaningful to you.

heartsofsolidarity

I have re-opened Etsy, and The Collage Cafe has my bangles and pendants in Evanston. Moon Art Gallery will get an inventory update in January. I’m exploring additional venues, and will keep you posted on upcoming fairs and pop-ups.

Ghosts, Spiders and Witches abound

I’ve been spooking up the studio with some wax and wire Halloween pendants.

HalloweenyPendants15

I picked out purple and orange papers to embellish with rubber stamps.

Stamping

Then I wrangled some wire to fit the images

SizingWire

I fired up the griddle and covered the paper in encaustic medium.

Now they’re ready to be worn by new owners!

WaxedWire

I have three at the Blue Buddha Boutique Carpe Diem! Pop-up and two pendants are hanging out at The Collage Cafe.

Summer Selfies

It’s time for some Summer Selfies as I process numerous photos from my August travels.

AgateFlowerblog

The Yellow Agate Set visited a few stores this quarter while the pink flower wax and wire pendant was admired during NEW’s recent Meet & Munch. I paired it with infinity earrings.

redselfiesblog

in May I wore various Mother’s Day Pendants to promote the lovely day. The peace-loving squiggledee adorned my seatbelt on an errand run. I sold a zigzag collar and had fun creating a new one. During NEW’s visit to the Heartwood Center I wore the Princess Coleopterist Ladybug pendant.

I’m freelancing again which had me suiting up a few times.

BWSelfiesblog

The black and white look called for the Isaiah 55:12 bible pendant that had me go out in joy. I paired it with spiral earrings. My coiled wire earrings were paired with various outfits throughout the summer. I wore the polka dot pendant inspired by Curly Girl Design’s shipment on another outing. The burgundy abstract pendant isn’t listed yet.

BlueSelfiesBlog

I enjoyed making the Delft blue pendants for my SAIL trip on King’s Day. The Morpho pendant is a favorite of mine. For the pride parade celebration I paired this rainbow pendant with flower earrings that sold. My chunky bead pendants are making their way on Etsy. You can order your own birthstone or chakra bangle anytime, or visit the Collage Cafe for ready-made items.

Come try these on at Saturday’s Platt-A-Polooza event in Bloomingdale.

Where the River Shannon Flows pendants

I got some studio time in recently and decided to add more musical pendants to my inventory (they keep selling out).

blarney

I’ve just about used up the Irish Rose music sheet I received from a friend.  The song is really called: Where the River Shannon Flows.

readyforwax

There’s a pretty spot in Ireland
I always claim for my land
Where the fairies and the blarney will never, never die

IrishRoseScarfie
It’s the land of the shillalah
My heart goes back there daily
To the girl I left behind me when we kissed and said goodbye

I cut some steel wire and hammered it out.

WirePrepping

CHORUS:   Where dear old Shannon’s flowing
Where the three-leaved shamrock’s grows
Where my heart is I am going to my little Irish rose

2IrishHearts
And the moment that I meet her
With a hug and kiss I’ll greet her
For there’s not a colleen sweeter where the River Shannon flows.

RiverShannon

Then I sized and bent the steel around words  I wanted to highlight. This (sold) heart moved around a bit.

fitingfirstheart

I cut the paper with an allowance.

cutting and sizing

Waxing the paper came next.

waxinghug

Then I adhered the waxed paper to the bent wire.

adheringtosteel

Trimming the pendant came next, along with an extra round of encaustic medium to keep it all together.

trimmingmusicalpendants

It’s nice to realize the three pendants I made from this sheet before have all sold. The round hug is up on Etsy now.

lyricdetailsBlog

You’ll see the final four appear on Etsy in September and at local pop-up shows.

EtsyLoad

Sure no letter I’ll be mailing
For soon will I be sailing
And I’ll bless the ship that takes me to my dear old Erin’s shore

lyricsandheart
There I’ll settle down forever
I’ll leave the old sod never
And I’ll whisper to my sweetheart “Come and take my name Asthore.”

I Googled the snippets of lyrics and found the full song on YouTube:

Love Delivered Inspiration

At Christmas Santa gifted me with a subscription to Curly Girl Design’s Love Delivered.

LoveDelivered0

Each quarter, the wonderful people at Curly Girl Design pack up their latest releases, boxed sets of cards and other odds and ends to cheer the recipient up.

Lovedeliveredfirst

Then the job becomes figuring out whom to send these pearls of wisdom to.

LoveDelivered1

The list of recipients is almost completed, but the writing of the cards is still to be done.

LoveDelivered2Cards

My aim is to take some of my electronic hiatus weekend days to sit down with pen and paper and write (scribble) someone a personal note. Handwritten notes are so unusual these days, and I’ve relied too much on electronic (group) correspondence the past few years.

CurlyGirlDesignPencilsBlog

The third installment had festive polkadot tissue paper with a fabulous sticker on it.

LoveDeliveredPolkaDots

It was begging to be converted into a pendant.

PerfectFrenchSticker

I pasted some of the tissue paper on the back of the pendant to even out the stickiness, and then twisted wire into a circle to go around the sticker shape.

PerfectFrenchMaking

I used a piece of Brenda Schweder’s Now That’s a Jig to form a polkadot pendant and made spirals emulating the happy dots.

Polkadotpendant

After some shaping and bending I waxed the paper and added it on to the wire with black encaustic paint.

PolkaDotPendantComplete

These pendants will make their way to Etsy this week, so someone who does dream in perfect French can snap it up. I used to dream in Dutch, then German, but now it is mostly English.

Check out Leigh Standley’s amazing wisdom and quirky collage designs.

I’ve had her calendar two years in a row, and was fortunate to listen to her share her journey at the Creative Connection Event when I first responded to the tinglings of embarking on a creative life.

CurlyGirlDesignCalendar

It is fun to be encouraged to “live imperfectly with great delight.”

It’s selfie time!

Whenever I do my Etsy shoots, I try to also wear the pieces out and about for a photo record of how they look in real life, like this blue beaded pendant, ring and earring set.

BlueBeadedSet

Sweaterdress season is almost over, and this jade stone collar looks great with knits.

StoneCollarScribbleBalls

It’s fun to mix and match pieces and add my ring collection to the fun. You can view my combinations in real time on Instagram. Pairing my infinite earrings with a coil bangle and an exquisite purple pendant  brightened up the dreary days, and I gave my wool sweater a touch of spring with the caged butterfly pendant and matching scribble ball earrings.

PinkAndPurpleCombos600

I am also playing with my necklace collection, and wore my grandmother’s gift with New World Symphony when I won tickets to the Evanston Symphony Orchestra during a #weLoveEvanston campaign.

NewWorldSymphony

Pictured here: Musical wax and wire pendant, violin clef earrings,
a custom birthstone bangle bracelet, a butterfly ring from Ayla’s Originals.

The weather is warming but you can always make a fashion statement with a scarf pendant! This one is made with a piece of vintage coral.

CoralTriangleScarfPendant

I wore the freshly listed double helix wax and wire pendant to the Textual Encounters opening, along with pink scribble ball earrings and a butterfly scarf pendant.

ARCOpening600

A pop of red is always fun. This musical heart is one of my first and favorite pieces, and I combined it with the coil earrings that are quite popular. My triangle pendants have found a few new homes, and any color is available. The smashed earrings have a life or their own.

600Reds

When I did the Yacht walk-through for RAW, the long wire earrings got combined with a lime green mother’s day pendant, a bangle bracelet and rings from fellow Etsy vendors Jelene Britten Designs and alapop jewelry.

MothersDayLimeGreen6

Check out my Etsy shop for more pieces and always wear your seatbelts! They make pendants look awesome.

Etsy Refresh

Valentine’s Day is coming up so it is time to review my jewelry inventory. With 238 pieces of jewelry in stock that is more time consuming than anticipated.

ToLoadonEtsysm

I’m pleased to see that only one pendant has gone missing after packing and repacking items for multiple locations at least 10 times this past year.

Inventorying

Deleting listings that have sold at fairs was satisfying.

SoldOffline

Now I am busy refreshing Etsy and photographing new wire-wrapped pieces that aren’t online yet. It feels like I have loaded some pendants before, but the listings tracker tells me otherwise.

NewListings

So I get to roll my eyes at the camera as I do my neck shots. Cropping is a wonderful thing!

etsyshoot

One of my favorite beaded wire-wrapped sets is uploaded now, and I am curious to see where it will travel.

Blog

As I played with my wrap dress I found a new year-round use for scarf pendants: a belt-embellishment.

WrapDressScarfiesSM

Etsy has an #EtsyMatch campaign that I am trying out on Social Media.

BlueSetPromoBlog

It got their attention on Instagram already.

EtsyMatchInstagram

I still have a ways to go with photographing, editing and listing, but take a peek at my shop and see what you might like to get your Valentine.

ToRename

Here’s a sampling of the newbies on Etsy. I’ll post how they look in real life soon. Gotta get back into selfie-snapping.

I’m contemplating a collar give-away for the ones I haven’t uploaded yet. What do you think?
