Elmhurst Day Out

Like last year, the Holiday Fair in Elmhurst was a blast. This year, I made a weekend trip out of it and started at the Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art.

lizzadromuseum

This museum houses the collection of Joseph Lizzadro, who enjoyed cutting and polishing jade as a hobby, and began collecting beautiful artifacts.

lizzadrovitrine

Because rough jade was not available, Joseph obtained many statues, that were sometimes re-purposed into jewelry he made.

statues

The entry-level floor is filled with beautiful statues and charming dioramas created entirely out of gemstones.

lapidarydioramas

The desert diorama was my favorite.

desertscene

The Castle Lizzadro is gorgeous, though its in memoriam footnote leaves a sense of sadness and mystery.

castlelizzadro

I learned about commesso in pietre dure, which is painting with slivers of stone. There are numerous explanations throughout the museum.

guanyinmercy

On the lower level, the displays delve into the mechanics of how stone is carved.

howtos

It also taught me about Hunsrück Slate and what types of stones form in which layer of sediment.

hunsruckfossils

I envy the opal collection.

I also spotted a lovely butterfly.

Soon I had absorbed all I could and it was time to head back out into the sunshine.

Fall was at its glorious peak.

elmhursttrees

I had noted the You Are Beautiful signs at the Art Museum and decided to take a closer look.

The sculptures were uplifting.

I still had a little bit of time left so I explored the Conservatory of Wilder Park, a lovely greenhouse.

wilderconsservatory

Wilder Park is truly beautiful.

Then it was time to unload the car and start setting up at the Wilder Mansion, which was basking in gorgeous sunlight.

wildermansion

I found my spot and then moved the car.

The three-tree setup took some planning.

Soon I had everything the way I wanted it.

I spun around to meet other vendors.

Laurie Messerol is so recognizable.

Between 4 and 9 pm numerous visitor milled about.

Libations were flowing, and I got to sip on Prosecco.

My frosties and angels were popular that day.

Those who capitalized on the Cubs’ win sold out their blue, red and white wares.

When the doors closed we wrapped our booths for their slumber party.

The fountain was lovely at night.

I took stock of my purchases.

The next day we opened from 10 am to 5 pm, and more visitors milled about.

This new vendor has lovely whimsy for sewers and knitters.

Again, angels and frosties were adopted, and I am thrilled Elmhurst Angel stayed in Elmhurst.

I think the trees help.

Jewelry also found new owners.

This is a great show for vendors to get their start in, and I enjoyed the lovely work by made by Q.

I also met a lovely new pint-sized admirer who ordered a custom bangle.

Dragonflies are fluttering in new homes too.

elmhusrtornaments

It was a lovely weekend, and we all enjoyed our time in a beautiful setting.

Then I packed up what remained to be divided among boutiques and upcoming shows.

Soon the mansion was cleared, and ready for its next event. RGL Marketing for the Arts will put on an outdoor Spring Show in May.

I buckled up my ornaments and drove home.

Then I headed to Ayla’s to source beads for another custom bangle, which I will send off this week.

If you want to commission a piece, contact me now since the holiday crunch is real.

Wilder Mansion Holiday Market

I recently discovered my 1999 maps that helped me move across states to get to Evanston. Pre-GPS driving into the unknown was scary, but quite the road trip.

chicagomap99

So for kicks I looked up Elmhurst and got inspired.

angelfindselmhurst

I am heading back to the Wilder Mansion on Friday and Saturday. The Wilder Mansion’s 6th Annual Holiday Market takes place November 4 from 4pm to 9pm and November 5 from 10 am to 4 pm.

elmhurstpostcard

I’ll have a booth on the first floor among numerous artisans and crafters creating unique holiday items to buy as a gift to yourself or loved ones.

Beverages will be available, and the evening provides a fun outing for shopping, browsing and conversation. The Wilder Mansion is located at 211 South Prospect Avenue in Elmhurst, IL 60126.

Voila, Elmhurst Angel is ready to make her debut.

I’m busy embellishing other angels for your perusal as well.

I love the felt pieces and how they work with the wax.

Based on The Collage Cafe’s alcohol inks class I am learning how the inks work with steel wire and liking the effects.

Postage stamps aren’t as easy to work with, so that requires further tweaking, but this one turned out sweetly.

fuchsiastampangel

You’ll see my brand-new mini-books there, as well as SWARM ornaments. I will have plenty of pendants, collar necklaces, bracelets, earrings and keychains on hand to balance out the holiday extravaganza.

wilderangelspromo

Check out RGL Marketing for the Arts on Facebook for updates on the event. You’ll see the pieces that don’t sell in various boutiques and on my shop after the 6th.

Ladies Night Out in Elmhurst

Returning to the Wilder Mansion is always a joy.

wildermansionelmhurst

It was a gorgeous Wednesday afternoon, and I got the same table as the Holiday Market last year.

boothsetupgno

Soon I was set up.

boothangle

The ample set up time meant I got to peruse the other booths in mid-dress after a delicious lunch.

angelclocl

This undressed booth is a piece of art without the gorgeous Jewels Botanica it later displayed.

Roz Long of RGL Marketing for the Arts does a fantastic job curating a wide variety of jewelers into the show.

jewelsies

I was inspired by their skills.

4girlsjewelry

There was even time for a vendor to snap a photo of me.

Fashion was also well-represented, with hats, convertible skirts, scarves and a variety of other accessories.

These pompoms match my hair!

Other rooms had mini-manicures, massages, sweet samplings and wine.

Ladies soon started walking through the doors, perusing all the wares.

I’m thrilled one of my puzzle pieces walked away, as did a sculptural pendant.

Since Tannins was conveniently located next door, I got to sample their lovely red.

I sold a ladybug (hooray!), and got shoppers thinking about commissioned ornaments.

The Wilder Mansion and Wilder Park was acquired by the Park District in 1921. Seth Wadhams built a home called “White Birch” in 1868 on the site. It became home to the prominent King and Wilder families until 1921.

The mansion housed Elmhurst Library in 1922. In 1936 the exterior of the building was changed with new pillars and a south wing. The library moved out in the mid 1990s, making the Wilder Mansion a historical landmark that provides an ADA compliant multi-use space for the Park District and community.
