Lemont Fair Fun

My Holiday Market started in earnest November 1, at the 7th Annual Lemont Township Neighbor to Neighbor Vendor/Crafter Market.

I set up my table among several other vendors and had a blast seeing the creativity represented.

Aurora Rose Boutique owners presented their Quirkals line with some quirky sayings.

They offer custom printed coasters on tile and wood.

Across from me Designs by Starla etched away, and made me a present.

They have some of their inventory at Aurora Rose Boutique for the Holiday Season.

Greeting cards got me started into this artistic adventure, so chatting with my neighbor was lovely.

A few ornaments and my violin clef earrings walked away. The fair supports the Lemont Township Family Assistance Fund, helping neighbors in need.

I stopped by Aurora Rose Boutique for a shelf update.

I swapped out a few earrings.

Scarf Season is official now.

They will also be hosting these ornaments in their shop on Stephen Street in Lemont.

A Happy Star’s cuddlies always cheer me up.

Harry Potter fans will find some merchandise here.

Fairies abound, along with quirky stitchwork.

Check out their upcoming events and shop local!

My next fairs include the ADA Holiday Fair downtown on December 5,  the Waukegan West class of 1990 fundraiser December 6, and the Bucktown Holiday Fair December 13 & 14.

Emergency Vehicle Night in Lemont

Last Wednesday The Network of Entrepreneurial Women met in Lemont to peruse Emergency Vehicle Night.

Organized by Lemont Legends, Cruise Nights are held during the summer on Wednesday evenings in Downtown Historic Lemont.

We gathered at Aurora Rose Boutique for some small talk and browsing.

Megan K’s dress also had an EMS theme.

We then decided to have a beer at a local pub, since the weather called for it.

At Nick’s Tavern, we also opted for burgers, which we could have split.

After dinner, we browsed all the vehicles Lemont had to offer.

The main attraction were the fire trucks.

Other cars also gleamed in the evening sun.

Police vehicles, old and new, rounded out the event.

It is a fun and informative outing for families, so mark your calendar for next year’s series of events.

NEW’s next event will be the September annual retreat in White Pines, Oregon IL. Join us as we recharge in the woods with restorative walks, campfire chats and cozy cabin conversations about business, life and health.

A&Z Designs at Aurora Rose

Last weekend I decided to be an attendee at Aurora Rose Boutique‘s Trunk Show instead of the vendor.

I’ve admired A&Z Designs’ jewelry for a while. Their steampunk-y pieces are custom formed, riveted, enameled and bent. It was nice to meet the family of creators, and I debated over a few pieces as I browsed their fabulous display.

Aurora Rose has a new card vendor with lovely witticisms.

Coasters that can be customized with your photography are also a new product there.

I took one of the happy octopi home.

Tomorrow is owner Kim Peters’ birthday and I had fun incorporating her family’s birthstones into a bangle fitted just for her.

Each stone represents one of Aurora Rose Boutique’s most avid supporters.

Happy birthday Kim!

Next Month’s #AuroraRoseTrunkShow will feature Laughing Cat, with lovely repurposed vintage pieces.

Stop by my shelf when you pop in!

I look forward to wearing the bangle and gifting the cards in the Fall.

Trunk Show Fun

Before the Independence Day festivities I had some fun at Aurora Rose Boutique.

Mannequins were adorned with my pieces.

I might play with a scarf pendant necklace in the Fall.

I set up for my trunk show there with a pretty and whimsical view.

Having extra surfaces to display my wares was nice, as well as not having to worry about the weather.

I’ve amassed quite a few pendants now, and hope to see more explore the world with new owners.

I accessorized my Make by Megan K. Dress with a Hello Kitty Ring, Rock-A-Ring, and Spiced Up Shoes.

Other vendors came in to restock their wares, and I became enamored with these crochet animals from The Happy Star.

Luckily I was too busy to pull out my wallet, but the Octopi might get a cuddle and a ride home next month.

Kim provided tasty treats by Tastefully Simple.

I met fellow vendors, new Maraviglia fans, and friends during the afternoon, and enjoyed seeing a few adornments go home with new owners.

Kim was happy with the custom Scarf pendant I made, featuring the story and music score of Aurora Rose, or Sleeping Beauty as most of us know her.

I enjoyed the inspiration of other vendors.

And am pondering the projected survival rate of a terrarium with my no-green thumbs.

My July inventory is freshened up.

With a few new scarf pendants and necklace pendants. Detailed photos of the ones I left are here.

The next #AuroraRoseTrunkShow will be held on July 26th with A&Z Designs, a must for steampunk fans. Join Al & Zivi for a demonstration, meet and greet, and check out their handcrafted jewelry, hand-stamped metals and steam-punk inspired pieces.

Always shop local and handmade. It is so much more gratifying to own one-of-a-kind pieces and know you supported someone in your neighborhood.

NOTE: Only vendors already registered with Aurora Rose can have trunk shows there.

Trunk Show Tagging

This week I am busy tagging my pieces for the Aurora Rose Trunk Show on Saturday.

Originally I printed tags because I had to tag hundreds of pieces, but now it is more convenient to handwrite them on pre-punched jewelry tags.

Branding is a constant evolution, especially when different boutiques and shows have different tagging requirements.

Older pieces are also getting a refreshed coat of Renaissance Wax to protect them from the elements.

I am looking forward to perusing the store’s new items, as new vendors and inventory are constantly added.

Aurora Rose Boutique just had an awning facelift.

I look forward to wearing this dress by Megan K. It was lovely to meet Megan at the Custer Street Fair last weekend.

There will be swag bags for the 10 first #AuroraRoseTrunkShow customers.

Owner Kim Peters will also be making deliciousness from Tastefully Simple, yummy Beer Bread and Spinach and Herb Dip which I sampled with NEW, and Iced Red Rooibos Tiesta Tea.

I look forward to interacting with Lemont’s finest (because anyone visiting Aurora Rose has great taste!).

There is so much creativity in this store!

Historic Lemont also hosts the Lemont Legends Cruise Nights, which NEW will attend in August, but are ongoing every Wednesday until the end of August.

A new acquisition serves as a nod to the fairy tale and movie.

Tomorrow I’ll be learning more about branding in our group’s session on How To Brag. Hopefully I’ll put that to good use on Saturday.

Summer Trunk Show Prepping

I’ve been reviewing my inventory and adding some new pieces over the past two weeks.

Next Saturday I’ll have my only summer show in Lemont, an indoor trunk show at Aurora Rose Boutique.

The fun starts at 1 and goes until 4, though I will probably hang out open to close. Aurora Rose is doing these every fourth Saturday of the month, and the calendar of resident vendors filled up quickly.

Maike's Trunk Show

Co-owners Kim and Amber Peters are putting together swag bags for the first 10 visitors, so showing up at 1 may get you a reward!

Preparing in the studio is such fun, especially as I play with my loot from the Bead & Button Show (which I will write up in another blog post).

Musical pieces tend to resonate with my fans, so I’ve made few of those.

I had a mini-score of Dies Bildnis ist bezaubernd schön” (This image is enchantingly lovely) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart floating around that became a blue pendant. The scarf pendant is a special nod to Aurora Rose boutique, and the heart pendant is a vintage piece of violin sheet music (Old Melody and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star).

I also got a strong yellow vibe this week as I found a scarf I forgot I had, so I embellished it with this dragonfly. You can put it on your own scarf at the trunk show.

The yellow sparklies brightened an overcast and blustery day this week. I’m not sure if I should make a pendant to go with this for a full set.

I also created my first clip-on earring pair. All earrings in my shop can be modified with clip-ons now, just convo me your need and I will make the switch. Sterling silver ear hooks/studs can also be added at cost.

I look forward to the meet & greet of Aurora Rose’s Lemont customers and hope these newbies fly off to new homes.

The lineup of other #AuroraRoseTrunkShows is at Aurora Rose’s event page.

Seeing what my colleagues created is always a blast. Aurora Rose is located at 111 Stephen Street in Lemont, IL.

Have a great weekend and see you NEXT Saturday.

Spiffying up my shelf display

It’s been a year and three months since I started showing at Aurora Rose Boutique, and since then my shelf has undergone a few transformations.

Owners Kim and Amber take such pride in their store and I love seeing the rearrangements they make to best display the handmade products created by more than 40 vendors.

As my shelf got moved and re-hooked and pared down, it’s been a great collaborative process to help boost each other’s business.

Last month co-owner Amber re-arranged a few things, which prompted me to create new display gadgets to showcase my pieces.

I had purchased some fabric that initially was going to be a backdrop for my jewelry, but inspired by the velvet display rectangle Amber had found I decided to copy that concept.

Michaels had plenty of low-cost pieces of wood and foam core I could repurpose. Then I looked up tutorials on covering foam core and I got some batting from Vogue Fabrics. One evening was spent stapling the batting to the substrates.

Then I had to dig up my sewing machine and read the manual. It has been 5 or 6 years since I last used a hand-me-down machine, and when I was gifted this one my interests had diverted to other things.

I learned that linen is a difficult trial fabric but proceeded with the hemming anyway, and played with tension and different kind of stitches.

While it isn’t perfect, for the purpose of this project I am fine with the hemlines, and look forward to finishing that UFO quilt in my drawer.

After ironing again (which I never do for clothing, btw), I covered the wooden pieces with a staple gun.

The necklace stand was too thin for staples so I used spray adhesive quite messily and got that covered.

The foam core became a blend of spray adhesive and a few finishing staples. The easels came from the ‘project presentation’ section of Michaels.

Now I have a nice cohesive set of display pieces that will hopefully help my pendants, bracelets and earrings fly off the shelf.

Aurora Rose is actively engaged in Lemont’s summertime events, so pop by before the Wednesday evening Cruise Nights, the sunset soiree concerts and the farmers market.

I will be there with my art fair setup on Saturday, June 28 from 1 to 4 p.m. for Aurora Rose’s 4th Saturday Trunk Show. You can view all my inventory that day, including larger encaustic collages.

My Etsy shop is open 24/7, for those of you who aren’t near Lemont.

Mark your calendar for my trunk show in June, at which you’ll see a wider variety of my desktop minis and wax and wire jewelry.

1 year at Aurora Rose

Last year on this date I discovered a quaint new town just an hour from my home. I took the scenic route of Lakeshore Drive to I-55 to exit Lemont Road, where a lovely vista greeted me as I entered town.

The purpose was to meet Kim and Amber Peters, and as I entered their pink store I knew this would be a great venue to showcase my pieces.

They are very active in the Lemont community, and their engagement is beginning to garner some notice.

They also offer numerous in-store specials, including $5 off my green-inclusive pieces next month in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.

The danger of being an artist is that you want to support other artists, so generally, when I sell something, I also buy something…

Thank you for inviting me into your quirky and joyful store, Amber and Kim. Here’s to another fabulous year!
