Seussian Studiotime

I’ve done a lot of uploading and tweaking wordpress for the shop, and while I have plenty of pieces in stock, I was itching to get back into the studio again.

This brush needed to be taken out of its misery too!

My rainbow collection garnered a custom Valentine order, which I cheerfully fulfilled.

These are off to new homes.

I also recreated the infinity pendant that came out of a Now That’s a Jig! playdate.

My original version was snapped up right away, so here is this brighter pendant.

A bangle I created last year turned out to be too small, and then my customer asked to have it embellished with birthstone beads to represent her family.

So I set out to Dave’s Rock Shop and Ayla’s Originals to get the right gemstones.

The bigger size bangle called for a new mandrel.

Then I layed out the stones.

Stringing took a full afternoon, as most of these tiered bangles do.

I love the look of them though.

I donated a few keychains to worthy causes.

Some will pop up in various fundraisers throughout the year.

I also made a Seuss-inspired pendant for Chiaravalle Montessori School’s “Oh The Places You’ll Go”-themed Spring Benefit.

Dr. Seuss is one of my favorite authors and I own his full collection, including the Dutch books I grew up with. So I wiggled together a whimsical wire form to reflect the Seussian landscape.

I took a cue from “Oh the Places You’ll Go” and drew some lines in the pastel colors of the book onto tissue paper. Of course there had to be a nod to the message of the book on the back.

Now my spirit is restored and I can get back to the mundaner tasks of business management and planning. I multitask during product uploads, and ponder the places my business will go.

Bucktown Show Recap

My last show for the season was the Bucktown Holiday ArtShow.

As always, this show was a lot of fun and featured many creative artists.

I enjoyed making new friends and catching up with the regulars.

Day One was filled with visiting friends and some new admirers.

I enjoyed watching what people gravitated to in my booth.

I enjoyed lunch from the Yum Dum foodtruck outside.

The silent auction was in full swing in all rooms.

Chicago Cubs Pride was on display in many booths.

I was happy to see rainbow angels flutter off again.

Soon it was time to close up.

It snowed lightly on the way home.

The next morning I was greeted by a murmuration.

I unveiled my booth and rearranged my pieces.

It was my last time trimming trees for the year.

More customers streamed in.

Even our organizers and volunteers shopped.

These faux leather trees by MoHop are on my wishlist for next year.

I parted with some of my personal favorite angels.

Dragonflies also fluttered away.

I might see some of these adornments around town again.

A good day called for a reward.

Then came time for teardown.

I said bye to bobblehead frosty.

Another snowy evening for a beautiful winter wonderland.

Here’s to next year!

Trunk Show Sparkles

The last day of April was marred by rain, but that did not deter shoppers from browsing See Jane Sparkle and my Trunk Show.

AudreyTable

I set up for the show in the morning, and dropped of more yarn bomb doilies next door, where drawing angel hung out for the day to support Stumble & Relish’s guest artist.

DrawAngelatSR

It was fun to play with social media throughout the day.

SJSMtMInsta

My traveling angel almost got snapped up, but then she was recognized and her friend went to a new home instead.

CharmedAngel

Jaime of Stumble & Relish wore her new pyrite pendant out the door.

lefflerpic

In the afternoon, several people perused my wares, and adopted some pieces.

SJSSales

I had made lots of sparkly pieces for See Jane Sparkle, and she consigned the new collection.

Exclusively for her I made some single-dangle bangles.

Be sure to stop by other Evanston Made venues through June. I might have an angel photobomb during the various art walks and events.

Fun at the Wilder Mansion Holiday Market

The Wilder Mansion Holiday Market was a lovely event. The drive to Elmhurst was bright with scenic Fall colors.

prettytree

The Mansion is impressive.

WilderMansion

I can only imagine what it must have been like to live there in the stately rooms with beautiful crown molding, fancy chandeliers and gran fireplaces.

WilderMansionChandeliers

Unloading was in full swing when I arrived, but I was the first in my room on the first floor.

pre-setup

I unloaded my car and then drove to the designated parking area at Elmhurst College.

BlankTable

The short walk was lovely.

PrettyElmurstPark

Soon my wares were all set up, and I was able to take a peek at the other rooms, which weren’t fully set up yet.

WilderBoothdetail

Everyone’s art work is so inspiring, and I wish I could have shopped a little.

cutehats

I bumped into a vendor from the Ravenswood ArtWalk and one I had recently met at a Ravenswood Women in Business Chamber event.

Isabelle

There was jewelry made from broken china-both antique and more current.

shardjewelry

Across the room a real loom was being used for more lovely bags.

ActonCreativeLoom

We were provided some sustenance shortly before the doors opened, which made me feel well cared for.

lunch

Soon the doors were opened, and streams of people started walking in.

WilderMansionTraffic

My first sale was to a friend, but that garnered more sales as the evening went along, which made me very happy.

WilderJewelry

I celebrated with some prosecco.

Before we knew it it was time to cover up our tables and leave the building for the night.

CoverdUpBooth

I splurged on a hotel room nearby to save me the stress of driving late at night and early in the morning.

hotelroom

I was thinking I would have a cocktail and snack at the bar, but the ‘bar’ was a vending machine.

nomingling

So I settled for beer and popcorn and made myself at home upstairs.

cocktail hour

My sore feet recovered sightly during a bath, and I read a little before sleeping fitfully in a strange bed-next to a freeway.

HotelView

The next morning some sad news made it hard to prepare, but I put on my bright yellow dress and shifted into vending mode.

DressSelfie

To start we were provided a lovely spread of breakfast foods and coffee.

Then we all uncovered our tables.

Coveredup

I uncovered my table and once again the minute the doors opened we had a steady stream of attendees.

MaikesMarvelsBooth

Within the first hour I sold 4 ornaments, and more sales kept coming.

OrnamentsWilder

To cover fair expenses and make some extra money was a very validating experience.

WilderVendoes

I did a little shopping with my neighbors.

corkornaments

Traffic continued to be steady during the afternoon.

I think most people did well.

WilderMansionBowties

Then the doors were closed and we started tearing down our booths.

Teardown

I still love my handy bag, and it was surreal to only fill my ornament box halfway.

Hearts

The weekend sales filled me with contentment, and I am grateful more pieces have found new owners throughout the month.

My next pop-up will be on Small Business Saturday on Damen Avenue.

Sparkles at Ayla’s Bead Bazaar

September closed out with a pop-up at Ayla’s Fall Bead Bazaar.

AylasBeadBazaar

I had perused the bazaar last year and was thrilled to be one of the vendors this year.

BeadRoom

What’s not to like about being surrounded by sparkles and beauty?

PaintedBeads

Last year’s Pyrite strand made it into a set.

PyritePendantMaikesmarvels

I paired it with my Desigual dress for the day.

I also combined it with the ring I bought from Ayla’s booth last year, which matched the sparkly Noktivo nails nicely.

NoktivoManicure

The set also marked a tagging milestone (when I hadn’t properly identified the beads).

501

Before the fair, I had to tally up my cash and business cards to make sure I was set.

FairPrep

My satin necklace cords had dwindled as well, so I spent one afternoon tediously cutting and crimping.

It is always fun to see the bare bones of a fair.

My table was set up with time to spare.

AylasBeadBazaarBooth

So I perused the other booths before the public came in.

ElkaDesignsBoothtable

Elka’s Designs has so many treasures.

I had picked up strands from her trunk show recently at Ayla’s Originals Evanston store.

Elka hand-picked the colors for this Hematite bangle.

I felt the need for some orange and she had this Hollowite Turquoise on hand. The coppery acrylic beads are lightweight in spite of their size.

I played with Fall notes for the round hematite beaded bangle (and I have plenty of beads for monochromatic versions as well).

The Pastels Chicago show at the Art Center – Highland Park was not as pastell-y as anticipated. I was surprised by the earth tones in many pieces.

My neighbor sold chainmaille kits:

So much sparkle!

I was worried I might not be able to find the strands of this chunky bead bangle that has been requested by two customers already.

DakotaStonesChunkyBangle

Thankfully Dakota Stones was right in front of me.

DakotaStonesbooth

Hooray, two strands for me (and more goodies)!

DakotaStonesLoot

I wasn’t the only one browsing the $5 and $10 strands.

I was tempted by so many other beads, but had to restrain myself.

After all, one has to turn a profit first!

My pen-person from the last NEW meeting did its job.

All these embellishments spark so many ideas!

The ornaments drew admiration, so I hope some holiday orders come my way.

It was a lovely day filled with inspiration, and I look forward to showing the new creations from my new stash.

New Mother’s Day pieces

Mother’s Day is less than a month away and I’ve been busy making new pendants to honor the nurturers in your life.

MakingBabyBlueBlog

These pendants contain the word ‘mother’ in a variety of languages, and are fun to peruse. The majority of words have m and n sounds, but a surprising amount have different letter configurations altogether. ‘Patrino’ and ‘panjo’ surprised me the most.

MothersDayBackground

I’ve incorporated birthstones and special mementos in various pieces, and look forward to creating another mother’s day birthstone bangle in the near future.

BirthstonePendantOptions

With Spring having sprung, flowers are on my mind as well. Lots of Springy pieces are going up on the Etsy shop this week.  Who doesn’t want flowers that last forever?

PetalsBlog

If your favorite nurturer doesn’t wear jewelry, desktop minis might be an option. Wall decor never goes out of style.

DesktopMinis

Of course the best gift you can give is your presence, so you can always come up with a fun mom-child activity to give the best gift a mother can ask for. After all, one holiday isn’t enough to show appreciation for your loved ones, and love and family should be celebrated year-round.

OtherOptionsMom

Or how about a little serenade for mom? May 10 is the day this year. Get creative!

It’s selfie time!

Whenever I do my Etsy shoots, I try to also wear the pieces out and about for a photo record of how they look in real life, like this blue beaded pendant, ring and earring set.

BlueBeadedSet

Sweaterdress season is almost over, and this jade stone collar looks great with knits.

StoneCollarScribbleBalls

It’s fun to mix and match pieces and add my ring collection to the fun. You can view my combinations in real time on Instagram. Pairing my infinite earrings with a coil bangle and an exquisite purple pendant  brightened up the dreary days, and I gave my wool sweater a touch of spring with the caged butterfly pendant and matching scribble ball earrings.

PinkAndPurpleCombos600

I am also playing with my necklace collection, and wore my grandmother’s gift with New World Symphony when I won tickets to the Evanston Symphony Orchestra during a #weLoveEvanston campaign.

NewWorldSymphony

Pictured here: Musical wax and wire pendant, violin clef earrings,
a custom birthstone bangle bracelet, a butterfly ring from Ayla’s Originals.

The weather is warming but you can always make a fashion statement with a scarf pendant! This one is made with a piece of vintage coral.

CoralTriangleScarfPendant

I wore the freshly listed double helix wax and wire pendant to the Textual Encounters opening, along with pink scribble ball earrings and a butterfly scarf pendant.

ARCOpening600

A pop of red is always fun. This musical heart is one of my first and favorite pieces, and I combined it with the coil earrings that are quite popular. My triangle pendants have found a few new homes, and any color is available. The smashed earrings have a life or their own.

600Reds

When I did the Yacht walk-through for RAW, the long wire earrings got combined with a lime green mother’s day pendant, a bangle bracelet and rings from fellow Etsy vendors Jelene Britten Designs and alapop jewelry.

MothersDayLimeGreen6

Check out my Etsy shop for more pieces and always wear your seatbelts! They make pendants look awesome.

Post-Fair Gratitude

Well my holiday fairs are over and I am so flattered and honored at the reactions my pieces garnered.

1_SetupTeardown

It is lovely to be complimented on my wire-bending skills, and to have people purchase pieces to give to their loved ones.

1_ADASales

Knowing the quotes and songs touch people’s hearts and have meaning to them makes my day, and validates the creation of each piece. I am honored that you shared your moments and intentions with me.

1_LibertyvilleSales

The exertion of hauling bags from one place to the next does come with a weakened immune system, so now I am resting up before planning the coming year.

1_PackingLuggingShipping

Thank you to everyone who came buy to each of these fairs to support local artists and shop handmade pieces.

1_4booths5days

Without you, the pursuit of our passion wouldn’t be possible, and it is great to see that Chicago has a vibrant community of shoppers who seek out local and small business venues over ordering online from big-box manufacturers.

1_BTday2Pendants

Thank you for supporting me personally, and for giving my pendants, earrings, bangles, necklaces, ornaments and desktop minis new homes.

1_BT_Day2Ornaments

The more you collect the more I can make, and that is what brings my heart joy.

1_EvSales

You can still peruse my wares at the Evanston Art Center’s Holiday EXPO and Dragonfly Boutique in Evanston, at Aurora Rose Boutique in Lemont, and on Etsy.

New pendants for dibs

I made a few new pendants this month that I almost do not want to part with.

PendantsLine

The studio has been shiny and bright, luring me in.

pendantmaking

Someone posted Isaiah 55:12 in a piece of their work, so I went to my art Bible and ripped that page out for a pendant.

JoyStepByStep4

Don’t you love its message?

Isaiah5512

May it bring much joy to its future wearer.

JoyPendantFrontBack4

Meanwhile, Iggy Azalea’s ear worm was in my head, so I took a piece of Hello Holiday tissue paper and stamped its theme onto the paper (but not quite out of my head).

FancyPendant

I was also feeling the need to create an empowerment talisman with royal purple.

PendantWIP4

American Authors’ song reminds me to live each day to the fullest this year, so I wrote their lyrics out too.

EpiphaniesFrontBack4

For the Evanston Art Center’s 12th Annual Winter Arts & Crafts EXPO I created a green pendant, which will debut there November 22.

GreenEXPOPendant

For their Men’s Shopping Day: Saturday, December 20 from 10am to 4 pm I also made a keychain (though I think they’re supposed to get help shopping for the leading ladies in their lives).

GoldKeyChainEXPO

Turning the clock back has me feeling like I am chasing daylight as the sun sets sooner.

chasingdaylight

I also used some scraps to create mini pendants.

PurpleVibeSmall

Clearly purple is vibing with me these days.

PurpleSwirlPendant

I’ve also got a few more earrings in my head that will hopefully come out of my hands soon.

I have not loaded these on Etsy yet but you can message me via Facebook for your selection or special order. Holiday pendants are coming too.

ReignethPendant

Lots of ornaments are in the works and some will float around Chicagoland next month. Etsy will gradually update between holiday fairs.

Angelworks

If you like to shop in person, you can peruse The ADA Holiday Fair downtown on December 5, the Waukegan West class of 1990 fundraiser December 6, and the Bucktown Holiday Fair December 13 & 14.

More Etsy newbies

I’ve loaded some new pieces to Etsy last week while reviewing what I have in stock.

Anything created since then will debut at Platt-A-Palooza on August 30 and make their way to Etsy after that (if it doesn’t go home with someone).

My newly loaded pendants include Lime-Green Abstract Circle, Peace be with You, Write in Green, Fiery Heart, along with Purple Waves Earrings .
