1 year at Aurora Rose

Last year on this date I discovered a quaint new town just an hour from my home. I took the scenic route of Lakeshore Drive to I-55 to exit Lemont Road, where a lovely vista greeted me as I entered town.

The purpose was to meet Kim and Amber Peters, and as I entered their pink store I knew this would be a great venue to showcase my pieces.

They are very active in the Lemont community, and their engagement is beginning to garner some notice.

They also offer numerous in-store specials, including $5 off my green-inclusive pieces next month in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.

The danger of being an artist is that you want to support other artists, so generally, when I sell something, I also buy something…

Thank you for inviting me into your quirky and joyful store, Amber and Kim. Here’s to another fabulous year!

Studio clearing

I picked up some inspiring books from the yarn-bombed library the other day, and that prompted me to head into my studio and clear some things out.

My studio had become a chaos of Holiday production followed by the dump site of all my fair display items.

Creating 43 Ornaments and 35 pieces of jewelry between November and December took all the creative juice out of me for a while.

But a gift from a friend gave me the motivation to give those supplies a neat home, and has me reviewing all the ideas I have in my head.

So I decluttered

and rearranged.

I am taking a chocolate break this Thursday with NEW to celebrate the feng shui flow.

Join us from 6 to 8 pm at Anna Shea’s Chocolate Lounge in Barrington.

Stay tuned for more Etsy inventory on my site!

Dressy days

I’ve been living in my pajamas for most of the month, sloth that I am.

However, I’ve had reason to go out on a few occasions which led me to mix and match some pieces.

Galentine’s Day at Salon Four 14

Last Wednesday NEW visited Salon Four 14 for some pre-Galentine’s Day pampering. It was sunny day and the temperature had increased significantly, making us all giddy with joy.

Co-Founder Karen had brought a 12-pack of cupcakes from The Sugar Path as well as some chocolate.

We toured the cozy space owned by Heather Haftl, and learned that we can relax our scalps in the lather lounge with a head massage, pamper our hands with paraffin treatments, and watch our hair color get mixed at the color bar, after which it gets cut and styled of course.

The salon, which has been in business for four years, also offers custom make-up blends. Dipping our hands in warm wax after a hand massage was delicious.

We had fun playing Patty-Cake with our mittens.

It was lovely to meet ambitious ladies who have such a positive approach to life.

We will close out the month of love on Thursday, February 27, from 6 to 8 pm at Anna Shea’s Chocolate Lounge. Who can say no to chocolate cocktails?

Historic Conroe

My mind is on warmer climes these days, and I had a lovely time exploring historic downtown Conroe with my brother over the Christmas holiday.

We lunched at The Red Brick Tavern on 119 Simonton Street twice.

The walls have posters of famed country singers and there is a stage section for live music.

Burgers and Beer were on the menu (Cajun food) on day one, and I noshed on Nachos on my almost-last day in Texas.

I wish I knew a Kelly to send this photo to.

It was delicious and cozy.

Joined by my sister-in-law, we also swung by Conroe Coffee. Since they enjoyed Brothers K ‎ here so much their Conroe equivalent had to be showcased.

Located at 206 N Main Street, the woman-owned cafe has quirky wall decor, offers some gift items, sandwiches, pastries, desserts and of course a variety of coffee and tea.

I would lounge here frequently as well.

So if you’re in Conroe, Texas, go check out the charming blast from the past buildings with modern insides.

Re-stocking Etsy

I’ve been Etsyfying over the past week and loaded several earring pairs in time for the day of love on the 14th.

Hop on over to my store and take a peek at all the newbies.  Enter LETLOVERULE14 in the coupon code box through the end of the month to get a $5 discount.

Aurora Rose is offering several Valentine’s Day Specials in their store, and I love the mini-photoshoot they gave my hearts. Amber and Kim offer creative gift ideas that don’t put your wallet on a diet.

Stella Boutique is celebrating 1000 fans at their Facebook page with a 30% off coupon, so swing by there for heart-warming gifts before February 11.

A re-shoot for additional pieces will commence this week and then there will be more online.

Since the winter was getting a bit bleak I decided to add some life into my home and ordered Buckeye larvae from Shady Oak Butterfly Farm. I eagerly awaited them on a bitterly cold day, and unpacked the lovely box with clear instructions about the contents (2 host plants, 1 pop-up cage, nectar mix and a cup of 6 larvae).

The box was really cold so I wasn’t sure how the larvae/instar 1 had fared, but upon placing them by the heater they started moving and I gently transferred them to their host plant.

So adorable!

They munched away and started doubling in size rapidly.

I love the blue hues from these instars.

Observing their movement is fascinating.

Host plant 1 became decimated just as the first caterpillar made its way up the cage to start pupating (on day 13 of having them in my home).

Caterpillar 2 followed suit, and the next evening 3 began climbing up for their cocooning location.

Now I am awaiting the emergence of 6 butterflies in a week or so.

I’ll probably be getting some citrus fruit to feed them, but this nectar mix could be handy if the weather keeps me inside.

Meanwhile, host plant two will hopefully be an egg-laying surface for generation 2. I raised Painted Ladies last winter from a kit that didn’t come with host plants and regretted not having anything for the hatching eggs to feed from…
